Should advertising of prescription drugs on TV to consumers be banned?

ch_ris_l asked:

Pharmaceutical companies want money. That much is clear. That they are willing to abandon ethics shows that their leadership has little morals.

People that actually need certain drugs will receive the appropriate prescriptions from their doctors. (As far as I’m concerned, healthcare ought to be free in the US). People who think they need drugs because of the ads often go to their doctors and demand that they get a prescription for the desired drug. When their doctor refuses, they get angry, and try to convince the doctor they need this, or go to another doctor that will sign them a prescription.

The end result is that many people get drugs that they don’t need. They risk dangerous side effects.

For antibiotics, this is worse. Tens of millions of antibiotic prescriptions are written annually for the common cold – caused by viruses! This runs the risk of gettting more antibiotic resistant bacteria!

Why do we need consumer advertising of prescription drugs?

In California preferably, I have interned as a creative designer, but the designs where simple and did not take much creativity. I am interested in the creative aspect of advertising and would like to create a Superbowl ad one day, I also like to meet new people. I can manage people but I have no work experience to prove it. I do not know which positions to apply for, your recomendations would be a great help.
